The State of Jalisco has captivated and inspired artists with its traditions and beautiful landscapes, not to mention the inspiration caused by the Tapatia Pearl.

Guadalajara and its surroundings take your breath away with every corner you see, which is why great artists have been born in Jalisco in the different disciplines of art, both in the history of our country and currently, but today we want to tell you a little about artists who They elevate our beautiful land of tequila and left a legacy that has transcended Mexican art within painting and sculpture.

Painting has been one of the oldest artistic expressions in the history of humanity and here we are going to start. Most of the artists who stood out in this discipline have been inspired by the landscapes of their land, their people, traditions and culture.

  • José Clemente Orozco (1883-1949): Born in Ciudad Guzmán, he is one of the most important muralists in Mexico. He became the first Mexican to paint a mural in the United States and his greatest works are found in the Palace of Fine Arts, the Government Palace of Jalisco and, of course, the chapel of the old Hospicio Cabañas, turning it into the “Sistine Chapel of the Americas”.

  • Gerardo Murillo (1875-1964): Also known as Dr. Atl, he was a painter, volcanologist and geologist among other things, who was inspired by the natural landscapes of Mexico to capture his art, including the Tequila Volcano, the Nevado Volcano of Colima and the birth of the Paricutin Volcano.

  • Raúl Anguiano (1915-2006): Muralist born in Guadalajara, he became the youngest artist of his time to exhibit his works in the Palace of Fine Arts and painted some murals in the National Chamber of Commerce, the National Museum of Anthropology and abroad.

  • María Izquierdo (1902-1955): Born in San Juan de los Lagos, she began her artistic training at the National School of Fine Arts, attracting the attention of her teachers such as Diego Rivera and Rufino Tamayo, becoming the first plastic artist to exhibit her work. He works abroad, conquering large cities such as New York, Paris, Tokyo, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Rio de Janeiro and Bombay.

  • Juan Soriano (1920-2006): Known for his great talent as the “Mozart of painting”, leaving a great mark on Mexican art, creating his own language between realism and romanticism, attracting the attention of great artists from the guild of painting.
