Discover our culture in the crafts of the region

Did you know that in the city of Guadalajara you can find a wide variety of crafts?

In addition to tequila and mariachi, La Perla Tapatia offers different types of crafts from other municipalities or towns in Jalisco.

In crafts, the culture of the region in which it is created takes shape, color and texture and can be used for decorative or functional purposes. The crafts tell stories and traditions, their production process and materials with which they are made speak a lot about the region in which they are made. In addition, artisans create unique pieces that, when made by hand, each one is different from the other.

From Jalisco to Guadalajara

Guadalajara, being the capital of Jalisco, is a point where crafts from other parts of the State converge. Important expressions such as chakira pieces of Wixárika art, equipales from Zacoalco de Torres or piteado from Colotlán stand out in the region. In our city you can find some Jalisco crafts, especially in surrounding municipalities such as Tonalá or Tlaquepaque where pottery and blown glass are made.

Crafts in Tonalá

Tonalá was an indigenous area prior to colonization, however, the pottery of this region is the product of the syncretism of two cultures. Here you will find different techniques and types of clay and ceramics with which they make their pieces. In addition, in the center of Tonalá there are a large number of commercial establishments that offer this and other types of crafts. You can also visit the Tianguis Tonalá which is set up every Thursday and Sunday on Tonaltecas Avenue. To learn more about this topic, you can also visit the National Ceramics Museum and the Tonallan Regional Museum.

Crafts in Tlaquepaque

Tlaquepaque is another municipality that borders Guadalajara and is part of the city. Its historic center became a Magical Town thanks to its beauty and culture as well as the different crafts it offers. As in Tonalá, they work on pottery here, but they also perfected the blown glass technique, which you also find in Tonalá. It is no coincidence that there are similarities in their techniques since one municipality is next to the other.

This place will captivate you with its beautiful streets and gastronomic offering, but if you like crafts, it will end up conquering you with the variety of shops, venues, galleries and museums that honor this beautiful expression. If you come to visit, do not hesitate to enter the Regional Ceramics Museum and Pantelón Panduro Regional Ceramics Prize Museum, in both venues they exhibit traditional clay and ceramic pieces from the region and the entire country.

If you already liked collecting crafts or if you have just learned about all the beautiful things that come with making these pieces, do not hesitate to schedule your visit to Guadalajara so that you can learn more about all the Jalisco crafts in the city and its surroundings.

We are already waiting for you to live this experience.
